British Supersport Championship – Round 6, Mallory Park
Tom Sykes has now scored back-to-back podiums after finishing in third place
during round six of the British Supersport Championship earlier today at Mallory
Park. Sykes was never out of the top three places all weekend in qualifying and
free practice, and today’s result puts him into 4th place in the series.
His young team–mate Ian Lowry has continued his mature approach to the
championship finishing in 12th place; he now sits just outside the top ten in
11th place after six rounds.
Tom Sykes
“It’s always good to be on the podium but I must admit that a win
was the only thing on my mind today. The conditions were perfect but Mallory
is a tough and demanding circuit and a slight inconsistency with my laps times
stopped me from challenging for the win. Our package with the GSX–R600
and Pirelli tyres is working well, so that win is not too far away.”
Ian Lowry
“That wasn’t too bad a result here today. Obviously a top ten would
have pleased me a little bit more but it wasn’t a wasted weekend as we
scored solid points. I’m enjoying myself and picking up experience all
the time but every weekend can’t be comfortable. I’ll just look forward
to Snetterton and hopefully we can get inside the top ten in both the race and
the championship.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager
“After the weekend we have had with disappointment on the Isle
of Man a podium is always a welcome result. Tom was on the pace all weekend,
so yes we would have been looking for a win, but the nature of the Mallory circuit
can throw up some serious obstacles for a team – on that note a podium
is an acceptable and respectable result. Tom looks to be back on top form so
a win is definitely on the cards. Ian is doing a good job as a rookie in the
series and he is also well on target to achieving a top ten placing in the series
for TAS Suzuki.”
