2006 British Supersport Championship, Brands Hatch Indy Round One Race Preview

The TAS Suzuki British Supersport team will open their 2006 campaign this coming weekend at Brands Hatch on the 1.22 mile Indy circuit. Tom Sykes will remain in TAS colours for third successive season and the talented Yorkshireman will be looking for a return to Brands on October 1st at the final round with the championship firmly in his sights.

New addition to the team – and in keeping with the tradition of fielding an Irish rider – 19 year old Ian Lowry, formerly an R6 Virgin Mobile competitor and race winner, will be looking to develop his skills in the Supersport arena under the guidance of Team Manager Philip Neill who commented.

“After several successful tests with both riders the development of the new GSX–R600 Suzuki is going well and looking very positive. The new bike already appears to be better in every area and combined with the improved package from Pirelli, TAS are optimistic for the coming season.

This weekend we hope to give Beacon and all our associated sponsors a positive start at Brands Hatch. Tom is in ‘tip top’ condition and will approach round one with respect, knowing that it is a long season and points are important. Ian however has just had his tonsils removed this week so apart from feeling a little uncomfortable, he too will be looking for a positive start. He looked impressive in testing and I would not rule out a top 10 placing.”

“I’m really looking forward to it all again. We went to Spain and found that we had a great chassis on the new bike then at Mondello we made big steps and found that we had the horsepower to match it. It will be steady away this weekend to get into the groove then I’ll really get cracking on the new GSX–R600. There is a great atmosphere in the team and everyone knows their job so let’s get it on!”

“I’ve been really pleased with the initial tests on the new Suzuki and everyone in the team has helped me immensely so I’m looking forward to riding this weekend. It is a learning year for me at TAS Suzuki but I feel that I can be in amongst the points and progress as the weeks go on.”

The 28–lap British Supersport race at Brands Hatch will take place on Sunday March 26th at 14:50.
