British Supersport Championship 2006, Round 10 - Cadwell Park
Tom Sykes registered his sixth podium of the season for TAS Suzuki when he brought
his 600–machine home in second place at Cadwell Park during round ten
of the British Supersport Championship on Bank Holiday Monday. After dominating
the qualifying sessions, Sykes was looking for a belated twenty–first
birthday present, with his first win of the season. Unfortunately the rain
came on Monday morning throwing the race wide open after the dry qualifying
sessions. Sykes was then left to follow Eugene Laverty home in the race, albeit
maintaining his second place in the championship.
Tom Sykes
“I’m disappointed not to have won here this weekend and I think we
proved that the TAS Suzuki package was strong enough after dominating qualifying
and taking almost half a second out of Eugene. I took a gamble with my tyres
in the race and we lost out slightly in the early stages. I did close the gap
in the last few laps and another podium keeps us up there in the series. I’m
still confident that we can finish the season on a high with wins at Silverstone
and Brands.”
Ian Lowry
“After qualifying in 13th place this weekend I am quite please to have
finished in 11th place after dicing for a top 10 with five other riders. Sean
Emmett who was a winner last time out just pipped me for 10th place, so that
in itself is quite satisfying. With two more rounds to go I’m aiming to
maintain my place in the top 10 and maybe sneak another podium if things go my
way.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager
“Tom did everything right at Cadwell and what happened – it rained
again on race day! We cannot be too disappointed but it is frustrating when the
win keeps eluding us, although the season’s not over yet and Tom has shown
fantastic consistency in the podium positions this year. Our package with Suzuki
and Pirelli is now one of the strongest in the series and Tom was again the top
Pirelli runner in the Supersport class. Ian performed maturely and was in amongst
some experienced riders throughout the race. He has scored more points with his
consistency this weekend, and the top ten position that we set him at the beginning
of the year is looking pretty safe.
