Points but no Prizes
British Supersport Championship – Round 3, Thruxton – Race
Overview
The ultra–fast Thruxton circuit caused a few problems for the TAS
Suzuki pairing of Tom Sykes and Ian Lowry yesterday, during the sell–out
Easter Monday showdown. While Lowry just missed out on a points scoring
opportunity, Sykes brought the GSX–R600 TAS Suzuki home in a solid
6th place keeping the Yorkshire man within striking distance in the championship.
Tom Sykes
“I found it a bit difficult to get the set–up I was one–hundred
percent confident in for this circuit and I’m disappointed with 6th place.
I got a pretty good start but lost the tow on the front group at about half
distance and got sucked into another battle for 5th place. I’m going
to have to get the head down and look for wins at Oulton and Mondello in the
next two rounds.”
Ian Lowry
“Thruxton is one of those circuits that requires a rider to be totally
committed through some of the very fast turns when the bike is moving around
a bit. After qualifying 20th I rode quite well but am disappointed to miss
out on championship points. I was catching a group of six riders in front of
me on every lap and had things been a little different I could have been battling
for 10th place.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager
“Thruxton has been a difficult circuit for us and a place that requires
a lot of bravery. We never quite found that race winning pace but we are happy
to settle for the points and on a positive note, the new GSX–R600 Suzuki
was 2nd and 3rd fastest in the speed trap times. Pirelli also worked very hard
to give us a tyre that would last the race distance.
Ian found it quite difficult this weekend and the extra speed coming into
Supersport had him a little tentative but he’s learning all the time
and I’m glad he battled and finished the race. I’m a little
bit disappointed that Tom lost the tow on the leading group with a few inconsistent
laps but he has scored more points and now needs two or three top performances
to get him right back into contention.”
